How to Read a Herb's Sourcing Label

Herbal packaging is full of reassuring words — but not all of them mean what shoppers assume they mean. Here's a plain-language guide to the terms you'll most often see.

"Wild" or "wild-harvested"

This means the plant grew on its own, without cultivation, and was collected from its natural habitat rather than a farm. It says nothing on its own about certification or chemical inputs — those are separate claims.

"Naturally sourced"

A broader term generally used to indicate the herb was not grown using synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, whether wild or cultivated. Because it isn't a regulated term everywhere, it's worth asking a brand what it specifically means for their products.

"Organic"

Unlike the terms above, "organic" is a regulated claim in most markets and requires third-party certification. A responsible brand will only use this word on products that actually carry that certification — and should be able to show it to you if asked.

Why this matters for buyers

The more precisely a brand defines its own terms, the easier it is to trust what's on the label. That's why every Kavionaa product page states its sourcing type plainly, rather than reaching for whichever word sounds best.
